It's Still A Blur! (Year 2)

I think the second year with my beautiful boys has been a little more of a blur than the first... or maybe I'm still in the thick of it so I don't have the "looking back" perspective. Either way there are a few stand-out memories from this year.

-Ear Infections, Sinus Infections, Croup... Repeat! Ear Infections, Sinus Infections, Croup... Repeat! Over and over and over and over...

- The look on the boys' faces when they came out of surgery. Matt was fighting like a grizzly bear (do they fight hard?) and Danny just wanted to cuddle in and sleep. It was so sad. Nothing is as sad (or as memorable I guess...) as sick babies.

- The Hand, Foot, Mouth episode... I'll NEVER forget that. Danny's little voice screaming "HELP Mama!" for hours... and I couldn't help. Heartbreaking.

- The Halloween party we went to at Great Explorations. Another mom looked at me and said "I don't know how you do it! I could never manage twins!" I actually smiled at her and said, "No, they are such good boys. It's really fun." And I meant it! I think it was the next day that they turned into wild, CRAZY, unmanageable toddlers.

- The night I watched Matt climb into Danny's crib, bend down to give him "a boost" and help Danny climb over, then happily climb back into his own bed. Brotherly love at it's best.

- Jumping on the couch. The month I set up gates around all the furniture and created "grown up island" in an attempt to break this habit. Silly Mommy.

- The traumatic haircuts. My boys HATE haircuts.

- The screaming and panic that ensued every time the boys heard the garbage truck. Apparently, that is one scary truck.

- A million trips to the playground. I did my best to give the boys an outlet for all their physical activity. It didn't work... but they had a lot of fun at the playground!

- The day (very recently) that I explained to Matt bottles were for babies and we were going to give his bottle to Baby Luke soon. Matt looked me straight in the eye and said in a very grown-up, serious voice. NO baba Luke. Baby Luke NO! No baba."
My boys LOVE their bottles. My attempt to get them off the bottle by deciding to only put water in the bottle was a complete failure. On the upside, they LOVE water now.

- All the time we spent looking for birds. These boys (especially Danny) love birds.

- Matt's Halloween determination. As we left my parents house to head down the block trick or treating Matt put his head down and TOOK OFF. He walked, and walked, and walked... such determination! And the cutest little puppies I ever did see!

- The countdowns. In this house when you hear "Five, Six, Go!" you RUN. You run FAST... because that is the only warning you get that the boys are about to do something very, very dangerous.

- Counting down to share. For some reason we've started counting to six and then yelling "Time to share!"... and for some reason it works. It's very strange... but I'm going with it!

- The laughter. The hugs. The kisses. The sentences. The lack of sleep. The utter exhaustion. The fun. The love.

My Virtuous Kids

Honesty is a virtue right? (Like patience... that's the one I need to work on!)

My sweet children have their faults... but telling the truth has never been one of them. I remember the day when Kirsten was four and I picked up my adorable, tiny little girl at pre-k. She looked up at me with her huge blue eyes and immediately said "You are NOT going to be happy when you hear about my day!". She was right.

Then there was the time she bit another child. As I listened (horrified) to the teacher explain she couldn't give out details about the situation due to privacy issues Kirsten spoke up. "It was Patrick. I bit Patrick REALLY hard because he tried to push me off the swing."

Danny is quickly following his sister's lead with complete honesty.

While the boys were in the tub this morning I made the mistake of turning my head for a moment to brush my teeth. Matt immediately started screaming. I whipped my head around to see Matt's hair and face SOAKED. Danny held up his little cup stating "Matt wet. Matt wet, me cup. Me cup now (shrug) Matt wet."

The boys also go to bed with water in a bottle each night. (We're working on it! ...Do you sense my guilt that my almost 2 year olds still get bottles? But it's just WATER...) A few minutes after going to bed there is often a scream. 99% of the time when I open the door to their room Matt is crying and Danny holds up the bottle saying "Here Mama! Matt night night here! Here Matt."

Angelic? No. Honest? Yes.

From the Mouthes of Babes

Sometimes I think my kids are hysterical. I'm sure no one thinks they are as funny as I do (...part of my job as Mommy). However, some of this stuff is just too good to keep to myself!

In the last few days the boys have come up with a few laugh out loud moments.
- You saw the Potty Post right? Well, the seat has pictures of Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster on it. Before sitting down Danny addresses each character with very specific instructions. "Bird, No bite." "Elmo, No bite." "Cookie, No bite Cookie!!" I have no idea what made him do this the first time... now he probably does it because it makes me fall over laughing every time :)

- The boys both LOVE to play with Brian's harmonica. It goes missing quite frequently. We found it in the ball pit this week and the boys are playing with it all the time! Danny blows into it and then shoves it to my mouth saying "Wanna try?". Probably funny only to me but I think it's soooooo cute. Especially because it goes on and on and on and on. He blows one note then asks "Wanna try?". I giggle and blow, he grabs it back, and we repeat.

-In the bathtub tonight Danny was pouring water from his plastic Easter eggs (doesn't everyone use them as bath toys?) into a large cup. Each time he got the water into the cup successfully he'd declare "Oh Baby!" in the FUNNIEST . voice. I called out to Brian asking if he'd heard that and Brian said he must have gotten that from my dad. I asked Danny "Does Grandpa say that?" He laughed and said, "Yea... Grandpa... Oh Baby! Oh Baby, Grandpa!" (Again it went on and on and on.... and I laughed and laughed and laughed.)

- And my sweet Matt hasn't made me laugh out loud but he's made my heart smile. Matt now says "Bless you!" when I sneeze, "'Scooze Me!" when he burps, and "Love you!" (My favorite, favorite, favorite phrase).

Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-Dum

Sometimes having twins is REALLY funny.
After Matt bumped his head and needed an ice pack Danny began rubbing his head with one hand while the other hand was outstretched for HIS ice pack... Gotta keep everything even around here!
